Stand Alone Paintings

The following paintings were done separately from being a part of a series. They are documentations of parts of my experience and may come together as a cohesive group of paintings at a later date.

“Big Thief, End of the Night’ was inspired by a Big Thief Concert I attended in the summer of 2026. There was a blue light on the crowd, which inspired my decision to paint the people in all blue. It was also informed by thinking about the tension between photography and painting, and cyanotypes which create imprints from the sun on a blue surface. The painting is as much about the crowd and the inspiration of the music as anything else. The decision to paint the trees and the lights in the background was inspired by Van Gogh.

‘The Norwegian Jade’ was from a cruise I went on in 2024, leaving the shore of Antigua. It depicts the heightened colors of the cruise world up against the blues of the shore. It is a documentation of place and experience.

‘Sunset Fell Over the Town’, was I piece I worked on directly from imagination. The use of only imagination without looking at anything, was inspired from teaching children and seeing their wonderful world of imagination. I found the canvas for the piece on the streets of Brooklyn, with the sky painted on it. I then decided to paint the town on the painting.
